Our Cabins and Caravans Activity group enjoyed the Echuca Holiday Park from the 30th October until 3rd November.
INVERLOCH MARCH 2018
Members enjoyed the beautiful scenery and coastline between Inverloch and Cape Patterson in perfect weather. One group were lucky enough to locate the dinosaur footprint at the Caves fossil dig site (assisted by the local ranger)
5 Members of Bikies A rode along the very Scenic road from Inverloch to Cape Patterson and back.
Following the success of Walk 1, 23 members joined Eric for a second walk – this time on the very picturesque Screw Creek Nature Trail .
On Monday 10 March 2018, 20 members enjoyed the last picnic in the park for this summer. A lovely warm and mellow evening with good company and beautiful surroundings.

Outing to the Old Treasury Building, Spring Street Melbourne and the Tapestry at the Shrine of Remembrance.
We departed for Melbourne on a hot February day (2018). Our Driver Andrew took us along the Beach Road for a scenic tour into Melbourne. We stopped on the way for a cup of morning tea and enjoyed some socialising with other members of our Club. We really enjoyed the views along the way and from the bus we could see things that we don’t see from our cars. Melbourne was looking beautiful except for all the detours around due to the tunneling for the new train stations.
We arrived at the Old Treasury Building and were greeted by three guides. These volunteers gave us a very special tour of this old building and the history behind it. We found it interesting, such a young architect had designed this building so long ago and it still stands in all its glory. We viewed the magnificent timbers that had been used within the building and the lovely meeting rooms that are still used today. We also viewed many of the paintings of early Melbourne and the history displayed in many of the rooms.
After our tour, we went off in groups to find somewhere for lunch.
I was aware of the exhibition on at the Shrine of Remembrance of the “Morning Star Tapestry”. Our bus driver was willing to circumnavigate around the detours and take us to the Shrine.
This was delightful, “The stunning Morning Star Tapestry has been created for display in the Sir John Monash Centre due to open in Villers-Bretonneaux, France in April 2018. The 2.5×5 metre tapestry was commissioned by the Australian Government, designed by prominent Australian artists Lyndell Brown and Charles Green and hand –woven by the world renowned Victorian Tapestry Workshop.” It was magnificent!
We were able to travel home in comfort and miss most of the Friday traffic on the freeways. We had a wonderful day.

Our Visit to Noorilum
On Friday 10th November 2017, our Outing was a return trip to the Noorilim Estate at Murchison. We had an early start and a good trip there. We were greeted by our hosts Brandon and Lucy Menzies. For those who did not make the trip last time, they could not believe their eyes. For the others they knew why they had returned. The home is stately and beautifully presented. Brandon explained the history of the home and what the future holds. As well as the magnificent building we also saw paintings by famous artists hanging on the walls.
We enjoyed a delicious lunch and while we were enjoying this Brandon told us about the garden and what to look for when we walked around. We were greeted by a show of beauty from the peacocks and the geese let everyone know that we were there. All good things come to an end and soon it was time to board the bus. Again we had a pleasant drive home with much chatter and laughter from those present. A wonderful day of fun , friendship and fellowship for those who attended.

Crafty Critters Penultimate Craft Day, November 2017
Our Croquet 2017 Cup Day fun.
We not only play Croquet at our Club. We celebrate special days with great food.
Today we enjoyed a High Tea at the Club. Margaret Ross, our caterer extraordinaire, produced the delicious food. Of course we had to partake in some Sweeps run by Chris and Lesley McMillan and assisted by Sheila Thompson. The winners were very happy. Thanks also to Marcia Winrow who assisted me with the setting and cleaning up. It was a most enjoyable day. Glenda Baker.

Tesselaar’s Tulip Festival Silvan. 22nd September 2017
Today we had a beautiful outing to Silvan to see the tulips at Tesselaar’s Tulip farm. We have had a very cold winter and the tulips have been slow to show their beauty. However, today we were blessed with a warmer day and sunshine which was what the flowers needed to encourage them to bloom. We had been very worried that we would not see the tulips.
We had morning tea at the Lillydale Lake recreation park before we travelled on to Silvan. We wandered around the area where other beautiful flowers were showing their colours. Daffodils of many varieties, magnolias of various varieties and magnificent flowering cherry blossom trees. Today was the first day of the Dutch weekend and we enjoyed the music and dancing performances.
We all bought our lunch and enjoyed sitting in the sunshine in a lovely relaxing environment.
On the way home we enjoyed a scenic drive through the mountains and stopped off in Sasafrass for some retail therapy. It was a magic day.

Lots of smiles from members of our Walker’s Group who attended the 11th September 2017 walk to Langwarrin Flora and Fauna Reserve. They had a brisk and enjoyable bush walk followed by morning tea at Burdetts. Luckily they just missed the rain.

Outing to the Guide Dogs Victoria at Kew. 9th June 2017
Today we had a lovely visit to the Guide Dogs Victoria” at Kew. Thirty seven members of the Club enjoyed this outing. We were met by our Guides Merle and Angie. We saw the cutest little puppies playing under shelter outside. The set up was designed for them to experience many different objects, surfaces and such things as steps. They were having a great time. As we moved around the centre, the progression of the puppies to fully trained guide dogs was explained. We had a very pleasant lunch at the Doncaster Shopping Town Hotel. A most enjoyable day of Friendship, Fellowship and Fun.

Tram-boat Cruise
On a beautiful Autumn morning, the 24th March 2017, 42 members of the Probus Club set off for a Cruise along the Yarra River, from Victoria Harbour to Williamstown. We had a very good trip to Melbourne arriving earlier than expected. We were greeted by Anthony and Lisa from the Tramboat and they were happy to set off a bit earlier than planned. The river was as smooth as a mill pond.
Anthony gave us an interesting commentary along the way. It was not only informative but entertaining. Lisa had prepared a beautiful morning tea for us. We arrived at Williamstown where we disembarked for over an hour. Members enjoyed looking around the old town and harbour and those who could walk further headed off to the main shopping precinct. We strolled back to the Tramboat after an enjoyable time in Williamstown. It was not long before our lunch of delicious hot fish and chips was delivered. We had individual serves of the best fish and chips we had enjoyed for some time. There was much chatter amongst the members and the interesting commentary and entertainment continued. Anthony showed us many of the magnificent crafts on the river. There is so much money tied up in these beautiful vessels. However, there were not many to be seen cruising around. We had an excellent trip back to Frankston. This was a beautiful Outing.
Tony Noonan Racing Stables
Today the 9th February 2017, our Outing was to the Tony Noonan Racing Stables in Bungower Rd Mornington. This was an outing where we could drive ourselves, no bus required. The day was extremely hot. 37 degrees c. We were worried about how members would cope with the heat. On arrival, we were shown the lush green area where we would sit, it was bathed in shade and there was a lovely breeze blowing. No need to worry any more, we had beautiful conditions. We were looked after by Gemma and she introduced us to Tony Noonan. Tony was a very interesting man and held our attention with his interesting talk about how he got into the racing industry. He was a former teacher and related his teaching skills and management of children with the way he managed the horses. With genuine care and compassion along with his skill in training! The property was beautiful. Tony and his stable hand showed us the way part of the training was done, walking exercise, a treadmill and a swimming hole. The horses were beautiful. We enjoyed a delicious lunch of roast meats and salads, tea and coffee etc. We had a thoroughly enjoyable day and were able to return home at 2pm. It was a great success.

The intrepid Chris McMillan conducted a fun Trivia Night at the daytime meeting on November 15th.
While not taking anything away from our regular guest speakers this was a great change and a good time was had by all.

Noorilim Estate visit — October 14th 2016

In perfect weather conditions today, 52 members of our Probus Club travelled to Murchison East to enjoy the magic of the Noorilim Estate.
This Property was of special interest to us as our President Rosemary Ivey’s daughter and husband are the caretakers and tourist operators of the Estate.
We were so fortunate that Rosemary extended the invitation to the members to visit Noorilim.
The Mansion was built in 1879 for William Winter Irving. The home represents one of the finest examples of Victorian Italianate architecture in Australia.
The homestead is surrounded by 22 acres of landscaped botanical gardens which is home to prolific bird life. We could hear the birds singing, the guarding geese honking and the two proud peacocks screeching to one another, as well as displaying their magnificent plumage.
We enjoyed a delicious lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the guided tour of the house and gardens. Brandon and Lucy Menzies were great hosts.
It was a long way to travel but we were all so glad that we did.

Arts Centre Melbourne and the Eureka Tower. 12th August 2016
Today we had a lovely Outing to Melbourne where we had a tour of the Arts Centre we had two excellent guides to look after us. We were told the history of the 130 –year old entertainment precinct and then toured the different Theatres housed in this complex. The Arts Centre Melbourne extends five floors underground and houses the different theatres, The State Theatre, the Playhouse theatre, and The Fairfax theatre. The Complex also cares for Hamer Hall, and the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.
Each theatre has its own distinctive colour scheme, and art exhibitions.
It was so interesting and beautiful.
We enjoyed a light lunch at Café Vic before taking a short walk to the Eureka Tower.
Here we zoomed up in the very fast elevator to the 88th floor where we took in the breath taking views of our beautiful city of Melbourne and surrounds. We were fortunate to have clear skies and enjoyed seeing all the landmarks from above.
A most enjoyable day!
Marilyn Monroe Exhibition – Bendigo – 10th June 2016
At 8:30 am on the 10th June 2016, it was cold and windy when 40 happy people met to board the bus for Bendigo. We were off to the Marilyn Monroe Exhibition.Leaving Baxter at this time is always difficult as there are many commuters on their way to work. It was worse today because a truck on fire on the Monash which closed the road. So our driver from the Driver Coastal Bus Company decided to take the Beach Road instead of the Freeway. We all found this route pleasant and Andrew provided a good commentary along the way.
When we were through the city, the travelling was better but we had lost time and as we had a definite time to enter the Exhibition, we had to forego our morning tea stop.
We arrived in Bendigo a few minutes late but it was not a problem.
The Exhibition was interesting, It was very comprehensive, bringing together authentic artefacts, clothing and other objects belonging to or worn by Marilyn.
We all enjoyed our lunch at different restaurants close by and then we boarded the bus again for a drive to Maldon. This was just a brief stop but it was time for a few to do some shopping.
We then took to the road for a very slow drive home. Due to the coming long weekend, it was busy in both directions, north to escape the city or south to the Peninsula. It rained continuously which made the driving even more difficult for Andrew.
However, we were all happy on our safe return and thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Music Night – 16th May 2016
Spring in Japan Tour, April 2016
Springtime was chosen by tour leaders ‘Steve’ and Vic Walker to escort a group of Probus club members and some Frankston friends on an enjoyable and very enlightening trip to Honshu, the main island of Japan. The three week itinerary was planned to enable the group to enjoy the Spring highlights, especially the Cherry Blossom, or SAKURA , in bloom in the cities and areas visited.
The trip commenced in Tokyo with a variety of daily tours of the sights including the Meiji Shrine, the Imperial Palace gardens and Nippori ‘fabric town’. The group then travelled by the SHINKANSEN (bullet train) to Mishima not far from the base of Mount Fuji for a visit to the Frankston sister city of Susuno. From Mishima we travelled on to Nagoya with a day at Hiroshima. After Nagoya we were off to the island of Kashikojima, then on to the old Japanese capital, Kyoto, for a visit to the castle, temples, shrines and the famous Golden Pavilion.
After departing Kyoto the group travelled by ‘thunderbird’ train to Kanazawa with the famous Kenrokuen Garden being a worthwhile visit. Next was a stay at Toyama and a visit to the nearby Tonami Tulip Festival which was fabulously colourful! From Toyama the group travelled the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route via several modes of transport over the Japanese Alps and on to Matsumoto, the highest point being at an elevation of 2450 meters. Matsumoto is famous for one of the best preserved of the Japanese castles (built in 1593) and known as the Black Crow Castle. A train journey from Matsumoto to Tokyo and Narita Airport nicely rounded off the tour and we all returned safely to our homes tired and exhilarated. Our thanks to ‘Steve’ and Vic Walker for a well-planned and very successful Japan experience, touring Japanese style!”
Alowyn Gardens and Chocolaterie, Yarra Valley
On Friday the 4th of March we set off for a return visit to Alowyn Gardens in the Yarra Valley. We had been to these gardens in 2014 in the Spring. We had enjoyed our day so much we decided this time to visit in Autumn.
We stopped for our usual morning tea in Yarra Glen, a time to chat to friends before driving a short way to the gardens. We were met by our hostess Prue who gave us a talk on the gardens and then we went on our walk around. The colours of Autumn were beautiful. There were so many different sections of the garden to visit.The Edible garden with so many quinces ready to pick, the Birch Forest, the Wisteria Walk, the Partere garden, the Dry garden, the flower field and more.
We enjoyed a light lunch surrounded by huge pumpkins which were on display as part of a local Pumpkin growing competition. They looked fantastic.
After lunch we visited the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie where, of course, some of our members couldn’t resist the chocolate and icecreams. We had a wonderful relaxing day.

The Probus Club of Frankston Heights goes bike riding in New Zealand
A group of 9 intrepid members recently returned from completing a 7 day bike riding tour in the South Island. They rode the the Roxburgh Gorge, Clutha Gold and Alps to Ocean trails.

CHURCHILL ISLAND and PHILLIP ISLAND OUTING FEBRUARY 12th 2016
On Friday 12th February 2016, we had 30 on board the bus to travel to Churchill Island and Phillip Island. The weather was perfect and we all had a very happy, relaxing day.
We had morning tea at San Remo beside the bridge linking the mainland to Phillip Island.
It was a good time to have a chat to friends. The tide was way out and the pelicans were waiting for their feed from the fishermen which they know happens around 12 noon.
We travelled a short distance and went across to Churchill Island. Here we were met by a guide who told us the history of the island and the homestead. We all enjoyed looking through the home and the surrounds which were idyllic.
We ordered a meal of our choice from the café and it was delicious.
We drove on to the Koala Reserve where we walked around the bush and along the boardwalks to view the koalas. We found them high in the trees and rather sleepy. Fortunately, there was one pair at close range enjoying the tips of the leaves that had been put there by the rangers.
We then took a scenic drive through the Island and came back across the top road from the Nobbies which opened up the magnificent views of the cliffs along the coast of the Island on Bass Strait side.
Our Driver Andrew brought a very relaxed group of Probians back home by 4.30pm.
October 23rd 2015, Bikies “A” Outer Circle Ride
Friday 9th October 2015
KERRISDALE MOUNTAIN RAILWAY AND MUSEUM.
After a very worrying week due to the bush fires in the area of the Kerrisdale Mountain Railway, the destination for our Outing, all worked out very well.
We left the Baxter early and travelled to Yarra Glen for morning tea. It was then on to Yea, and the Goulburn Valley Highway to Kerrisdale.
We had perfect weather and no sign of smoke or the bush fires.
On arrival at our destination we were met by Jennifer and Andrew Forbes.
This couple have done remarkable work to build the railway. “It is a unique scenic railway built to two foot (610 mm) gauge on a zig zag formation, to gain the maximum height within the shortest distance.” The panoramic view at the Summit station is breathtaking.
Along the way, Andrew gave us information about the pioneers who passed through this area and pointed out the places of interest in the landscape. The Australian, Bush is magnificent.
On return to the Museum area, we were amazed at all the machines of interest there. The men in the group were fascinated and very interested.
We enjoyed a light lunch sitting outside under the trees, enjoying the view and the birds, the kangaroos were all asleep under the trees somewhere.

OUTINGS. 14TH AUGUST 2015. CHINESE MUSEUM AND PARLIAMENT HOUSE.
Today we had an excellent outing to the Chinese Museum and Parliament House in Melbourne. We had thirty three participants and all were very impressed with both destinations. At the Museum we had two excellent guides who were able to impart a wealth of knowledge about the history of the Chinese in Australia. There were so many interesting exhibits, such as Cartoons from the Bulletin dating way back, a Chinese Wedding dress, the shoes belonging to the women who had had their feet bound to restrict growth, the drum from the Beijing Olympic games, Dioramas of the trek to the goldfields by the Chinese in search of Gold, furniture building, plus many more.
We were all in awe of the beautiful Chinese Dragon, measuring 67 metres, which was displayed along the staircase from one level to another. This was truly an excellent and educational experience.
We went to different restaurants of our choice for lunch and met the bus again, which took us to Parliament House. Here we were in two groups for the tour of both houses of Parliament. Once again, we had excellent tour leaders who explained how the Parliament worked. We were able to sit in the seats of our current politicians. Our many questions were answered so well. The building itself is magnificent.
A day thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Outing to Miss Fisher’s Costume exhibition, Ripponlea – 29th July 2015

OUTING TO THE IMPERIAL MUSEUM OF LONDON’S WW1 EXHIBITION.
Today, 12th June 2015, our Outing was to the Melbourne Museum where a very special exhibition was being held to celebrate the “War that Changed the World.”
The Exhibition was brought to Australia by the Imperial Museum of London and there were 300 items of memorabilia to see. The display was excellent and the old war articles combined with the modern technology were merged to perfection. It was truly a magnificent exhibition.
We spent at least an hour and a half there and then had lunch at the Museum Cafés.
In the afternoon, our pass allowed us to view the general Museum. For many of us it had been a long time since we had been into the Museum. Of course we found Pharlap, the dinosaurs and many exhibits we had remembered seeing when the Museum was located in its original building, and when we were much younger.
The new Museum is a wonderful asset to Melbourne.
We all had a most enjoyable day.
Stokes Museum & Mt Macedon
Today, the 10th April 2015, a bus load of Probus Members departed at 8 am for an outing to Mt Macedon. We visited the Stokes Collection Museum and Forest Glade Gardens. “The Stokes Collection is regarded by many antique experts as the greatest private collection in the southern hemisphere.” We would all agree that words are difficult to find to describe what we saw. It has to be seen to be believed. We are so fortunate to have this collection here in Victoria, and Cyril Stokes has ensured that this collection will remain in perpetuity, by making it a Trust, for generations to come.
The collection displays exquisite examples of 18th and 19th century porcelain, French furniture and paintings. It is truly remarkable. We enjoyed a lovely lunch catered for by the Mt Macedon Horticultural Society. After lunch we returned to the property of Cyril Stokes, to walk around the beautiful 14 acre Forest Glade Gardens. The weather was superb and the sun shone on the trees bringing the autumn foliage to its beauty.
This was a magnificent days outing, enjoyed by all the members who attended.
Friday 13th February 2015
OUTING TO THE DESALINATION PLANT WONTHAGGI.
When the Expression of Interest List, to visit the Desalination Plant at Wonthaggi, went out at a Probus Meeting, we had enough Members interested to take two tours.
There were 94 participating members of the Club.
The first tour went on Friday 13th February and the second tour will take place on the 13th March 2015.
We had a very pleasant drive down to Wonthaggi, stopping for morning tea at Loch. This is always a good time to have a chat with fellow members.
On arrival at the Plant we were greeted by our Guide Rosemary. She was a very knowledgeable woman who described the layout, working and management of the plant very well. She was able to answer questions capably from the group.
We were all amazed at what we saw and heard and also very interested to see how the tax payers money had been spent. After the information had been presented inside, we boarded the bus with Rosemary, who continued her commentary as we drove around the site. It was truly amazing.
We all enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Wonthaggi Club before heading home.
The second group will do the same as the first and I am sure that they too will find it a very interesting day.

Friday 19th December 2014
16 riders in Bikies A mostly, enjoyed a ride along the Peninsula Link bike trail from Mt Eliza Regional Park and back.
All including our president and others, who were unable to ride, enjoyed a very pleasant end of year Barbecue at the park .
21ST NOVEMBER and 5th DECEMBER 2014.
We had two beautiful Outings to Beleura House and Gardens in Mornington.
We were able to drive ourselves to the Mornington Golf Club where we were picked up by a Beleura Courtesy bus to take us to the home in Tallis Drive Mornington.
On arrival, we were served tea and coffee and met Anthony Knight, who presented the history of the home to us in the Melba Room. It was very interesting. In groups we toured the house and gardens escorted by knowledgeable volunteer guides. We came back to the Melba room for a Champagne lunch which was presented beautifully and was most enjoyable.
On the first date, we were very honoured to have one of our most talented members,George Charters play the magnificent Stuart Grand Piano for our entertainment.
His performance was brilliant and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
On the second date, we had an interesting presentation of gift wrapping presented by Robert Smith, who had worked in some of Melbourne’s iconic retail stores. We all know how to wrap our Christmas gifts beautifully now.
We had 36 members attend the first day and 25 members on the second day. We all agreed that we had a wonderful day, which ever day we attended.

Bikies A enjoyed 3 great days riding different sections of the Goulburn Valley Bike Trail, using Yea as a base.

“Within an area of approximately 7 acres the garden is designed along strong symmetrical lines that become blurred by the softness of the space and the grace of the trees. There are five clearly designed areas within the gardens; a perennial border designed for Spring and Autumn, a silver birch forest consisting of about 500 trees, an edible garden of generous proportions with avenues of fruit trees, a berry garden, beds of organic vegetables, flowers and herbs. Not far away is a formal parterre garden built along 17th century design principles, that leads you through a series of small individual courtyards and garden spaces.
Through all of this runs a wisteria and rose covered arbor 100m long with a sunken rose garden and a classical fountain as a centre piece. The new French garden in the front paddock provides a direct contrast to the detail of the main garden.”
We enjoyed a delicious lunch after walking through the gardens.
To follow up we visited the Chocolaterie just up the hill where we all added inches to our waist lines with chocolates, ice-creams and hot drinks.

Outing to The State Library of Victoria and the Old Melbourne Gaol. On Friday the 8th August, 36 members of the Probus Club enjoyed an interesting day out in Melbourne. Our first stop was the State Library of Victoria. Here we had a guided tour which was called from “The Dome to the Dungeon”. We were told of the history of the Library from 1854 to today and we experienced the beauty of the Library after its recent restoration.
The exhibition areas encircling the Domed Reading Room, house many interesting displays, manuscripts, maps, posters reflecting on our history from the early years of European settlement and significant events. The Library certainly holds more than books, of which there are thousands. After lunch we visited the Old Melbourne Gaol where we had a tour which was again very interesting, although it was also very depressing.
We had time for a coffee before we left for home.

Bikies A had a good ride today with 15 members attending including Graeme Jones on a Tandem bike. We rode from Toorak onto the Anniversary Bike Trail to the Boathouse for lunch and then back to Toorak on the Yarra Bike Trail in glorious sunshine on a perfect Autumn day.

OUTINGS CASTLEMAINE 11TH APRIL 2014.
Today we had a most enjoyable outing to Castlemaine. Our first stop was to visit the Restorer’s Barn where we saw an amazing collection of things from the past.
There were so many items that we had grown up with and no longer owned or used. If you were renovating or needed a door knob etc to match something in your home, it was the place to go.
We then made our way to the Buda Historic Home and Garden. We had a delicious lunch in the Garden Room. Buda is an authentic house and garden surviving the gold rush era in Castlemaine. Our volunteer guides gave us an interesting talk on Buda, which was the home of the creative Leviny family for 118 years.
We were so lucky with the weather today, as Victoria was experiencing the wettest week for some time. Our morning tea stop at the Organ Pipes was dry, and as we drove further north the weather cleared up and we were able to enjoy our time without getting wet.
39 members of the Club attended this outing and we all had an enjoyable day.

Bikies “A” December Ride – Philip Island
On the 20th Dec; 18 Probus members met at Val and Rick Renison’s holiday house, Philip Is; for a ride around the Island in a morning. The ride was on made road, gravel and grass tracks and took in some beautiful coastal scenery. At the end of the ride we enjoyed a very much appreciated BBQ at Renison’s . Thanks to Val and Rick for their hospitality and a Happy Christmas to all.
OUTINGS. PROBUS CHRISTMAS PICNIC. FRIDAY 29th NOVEMBER 2013.
Today we proved that we can still have a great outing despite inclement weather. 64 Members of the Club travelled to Jells Park for our Christmas picnic. During the week we had enjoyed beautiful weather except for the day before our picnic when it rained all day. (This set the organisers into a spin). However, we were so fortunate that we only had a shower or two during our time at the park.Margaret Ross, (chef extraordinaire) had made delicious scones for our morning tea. Our wonderful members John and Lillian Richards organised the catering and their superb organisation ensured that we all had a delicious feast. Chicken, Ham, and Corned beef, with a variety of great salads on the side, in fact all over the plate!! Our sweets were berries served with ice creams of many different flavours. Delicious! Then to cap it off, we shared a very big box of chocolates and took a “lolly bag” home with us. The Croquet enthusiasts within the Club set up their hoops, and over the rough terrain, they tried to have a game. Others took a walk around the park and many members were just happy to sit, relax and chat to friends.
It was a great day and thanks to all for coming.

Norfolk Island October 2013
36 members of the Frankston Heights Probus Club spent a most enjoyable and informative week on Norfolk Is. Their itinerary was very full and varied. It included sightseeing, attending shows, watching the Island lighters delivering supplies, dinners, walks, duty free shopping ,garden and history tours, bike riding for some members, and much more.
A beautiful Island with a very relaxed atmosphere, perfect weather, friendly, obliging people, delicious food, great accommodation and wonderful company.
Lots of fun, a trip to be recommended
WERRIBEE PARK ZOO OUTING. 11TH OCTOBER 2013
We had a lovely outing to the Werribee Park Open Range Zoo on Friday 11th October 3013.
45 Members of the Club attended. We had our morning tea stop before going into the park.
We enjoyed our Safari tour around the park, seeing rhinos, giraffe, zebras, bison, camels, antelopes, ostriches and other animals roaming feely on the open savannah plains.
After a picnic lunch we roamed around the zoo, enjoying the other animals, such as the gorillas, serval cats, lions, hippos and meerkats.
After another coffee and rest, we were on our way home. We all enjoyed the day very much.

McCrae to Sorrento, 20th September, 2013
Outings – 16th August 2013
It was a cold, blustery day on Friday 16th August, 2013, when 39 members of our Club went on the Outing to Westgarthtown in Thomastown. Many of our group, including the bus driver had never been to this area of Melbourne before and we found it very interesting.
We were greeted by Tatiana who was our guide for the morning. She was a very passionate well informed member of the Friends of Westgarthtown. This little settlement in the middle of a residential area is where the German migrants settled in Melbourne in the mid 1850’s. Times were tough after a very long journey from Germany and the Zeibell family were one, who were faced with the harsh conditions, but managed to build a farm house with rubble bluestone quarried from a paddock nearby. We had a tour of this home as well as walking, (buffeted by a very strong wind) to the Lutheran Church and Cemetery. We enjoyed our morning tea in The Zeibell Farmhouse.
When we left Westgarthtown, we drove to the Excelsior Hotel where we all enjoyed a delicious meal. As it was getting late, we decided to start the journey home instead of heading further out of town, but we stopped at a lovely Garden Centre in Heidleberg which was most enjoyable. We arrived back at the Baxter Tavern at 4.45pm. Everyone had a lovely day.

Outings – 14th June 2013
On Friday 14th June 2013, 36 members braved a cold day for our outing to the MCG. We had two excellent guides, Hugh and Michael, who met us at Entrance 3 and guided us all over the building, recalling the history of its erection and changes, as well as the many sporting and other events that have taken place there. We were so interested to see all the work that was being undertaken to prepare the oval for the football game that is to be held there this weekend. We were amazed by all the lights that were being used to dry and promote the growth of the grass. There was much activity on the field with the painting of boundary lines and the centre advertising and team logos.
We visited the famous Ponsford Stand, the City Terrace – with views of Melbourne’s skyline and the MCG Members Reserve. We saw the magnificent MCG Tapestry, many famous paintings and photographs, as well as the Players’ change rooms, the Cricket viewing room, the famous Long Room, the Cricket Victoria Bill Lawrey Centre, the MCG Library as well as the Media facilities. We now have a greater understanding of why patrons pay a high price for tickets to games and events. We were staggered by the figures quoted for the management and further development of such a fabulous facility in Melbourne.
We then travelled back to the Arts centre area of town where we were free to have lunch and then visit the National Art Gallery of Victoria or the exhibition at Federation Square.
We had a very good trip home. We did have a lovely day.

Walking Group – 10th June 2013
On Monday 10th June, the Probus Walking Group travelled to Sorrento and then caught the Ferry across to Queenscliffe for a walk around this old town. Our first stop was the new Harbour Precinct where we grouped according to how far and how long we wished to walk. Some chose the short walk exploring historic Hesse St and others walked the longer circuit along the rail trail, returning via The Bluff, lighthouse and Hesse Street. There were many good eating places to be found and of course looking at the shops pleased many of the group. The new tower at the harbour precinct was well worth a visit and the 360 degree view from the top was beautiful. There were 36 in our group and we all had a thoroughly enjoyable day. The next walk will be to walk along the Peninsula Link walking path from Robinsons Park, Baxter to the Baxter Township. The opposite way to our previous walk along the Peninsula Link Walkway.

Wool Museum, Geelong – April 2013
9am, on Friday the 12th April 2013, 31 members of the Probus Club of Frankston Heights travelled to Geelong to visit the National Wool Museum. On the way we stopped for an enjoyable morning tea in the sunshine at Werribee Park. At the Museum, we were given a tour by volunteer men, who were able to give us an excellent commentary on the history of the sheep/wool industry in Australia and detailed information on the processes that the wool goes through, to make woollen garments and carpets. We were all amazed by the intricacy involved in the machinery used and marvelled at the “technology” which developed these machines. We left the Museum and travelled a short distance to Buckley’s Entertainment Centre for a very enjoyable lunch, then began the journey home, arriving back at Baxter about 4.30pm. We all had a lovely day.
