Meeting Places

The Club met in the Simpson Room at the Frankston RSL from the inaugural meeting to May 2006. The RSL then decided that they wished to upgrade the room and other facilities in order to attract conventions, seminars and other activities.

In June 2006 we relocated to The Sands Hotel at Carrum Downs. This venue was adequate but a bit small to accommodate everyone if they turned up so in January 2007 we moved to the Seaford Hotel. This location was suitable but in early 2009 we started getting pressure to move as the hotel wished to redevelop its facilities for pokies.

So in June 2009 we ended up at the Baxter Tavern. Despite the lack of doors to close our meeting room it was suitable and the hotel management were very supportive.

It wasn’t easy to find a suitable meeting place for our club as we had to seat a possible 160 plus attendees. Other venues met this criterion but it would have involved club members putting out and returning seats as well as preparing morning tea and cleaning up.

Based on feedback from club members, the Committee of our club decided that they did not want to follow this type of arrangement and to stay with venues which do all this work for us.

However, after several unsuccessful attempts over subsequent years to find an alternative venue to the Baxter Tavern, in April 2017, due to a change in attitude on the part of the Frankston RSL management, we moved back to the “new” Simpson Room at that venue.
